‘Green Intimacy’ by Mike Grandmaison Fundy National Park, New Brunswick. Canada Dickson Falls in the Caledonia Highlands of New Brunswick’s Fundy National Park is one of the most beautiful little waterfalls I have encountered in my travels across this country. Surrounded by lush greenery, it is a sight to behold. Amazingly, this park boasts nearly 25 waterfalls so there are plenty more to discover. Dickson Creek meanders through a very pleasant walk through the Acadian forest. Near the beginning of the easy 1.5 kilometer hike is a long wooden walkway that takes you along the shoreline of Dickson Creek where its course changes on a number of occasions and plunges into a series of little waterfalls. It is a most pleasant walk through tall coniferous trees and a forest floor covered by moss, ferns and an assortment of other plants. Along the boardwalk are a number of vantage points where you can contemplate the scene or make a few photographs. Dickson Falls offers many intimate views - smaller, narrower views - of the larger landscape. While I first visited Dickson Falls in the morning when it was bright and sunny, I did return later in the afternoon when the clouds had rolled in and a light rain had begun. Rain tends to saturate colors more deeply. To obtain a ‘silky, waterfall look’, I dialed in a 4 second exposure, aided by the use of a polarizing filter to reduce unwanted reflection bouncing off the vegetation from the bright overcast sky.
