Artist Statement:
Marilyn Henrion has been creating original artworks for corporate, healthcare and residential interiors for over 25 years.
Her works are included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Arts & Design in New York, the Newark Museum,Newark, NJ, the Central Museum of Textiles, Lodz, Poland, the Racine Art Museum, Racine WI, the U.S. Embassy in Pnom Penh, Cambodia, U.S. Federal Reserve Bank, LinkedIn Corporate Headquarters, Avaya Corporation, Lucent Technologies, among many others. She is represented in the Smithsonian Institution's Archives of American Art in Washington, DC.
Applying contemporary aesthetic sensibilities to traditional textile techniques and combining them with modern technologies, the artist celebrates that irregular and intimate quality of things made by the human hand. Created with the finest materials and museum-quality craftsmanship, she transforms the medium into a vehicle for sophisticated visual expressions with strong graphic impact.
As a life-long New Yorker, the artist's work has always been deeply rooted in the urban geometry of her surroundings, from the early geometric abstractions to the more recent mixed media works in which the origins become explicit. The mixed media works are based on her digitally manipulated photographic images of her New York neighborhoods. In other recent series, Windows, European Odyssey, New Orleans Revisited, and Floating Bridges, the artist’s eye expands to include other cities and towns in which she has traveled,. Much as Edward Hopper had done in the last century, Henrion synthesizes and transforms the "facts" of the material world to reflect her own experience of a particular place.
