Artist Statement:
Lorrie Boydston is a Contemporary Suburban theme and abstract painter from the Midwest. Born and raised in Suburban Kansas City, Boydston's diverse body of work references her first-hand experiences from daily life in suburbia and explores related themes such as environment, diversity, spirituality, domesticity and time. Recent abstract grid works represent Boydston's interpretation of the redundancy and imposed structure of Suburban housing developments. The clear Plexiglas "canvas" on which she chooses to paint provides a fabricated surface that echoes the very subject matter of her paintings and allows a little light to shine through here and there.

Artistic Influences:
I am inspired by the work of Eric Fischl, Edward Hopper, Wayne Thiebaud, Paul Klee, Andy Goldsworthy and Rachel Whiteread because of the way they think about and present their subjects. Edward Hopper inspires me for the way he painted light in his scenes. Attempting to find a practical spirituality and truth in my everyday world drives the main body of my work.
