Nature has long since been an inspiration for artists with its beautiful colors and diverse landscapes. Spring is a time of renewal, when nature is reborn after the hibernation of winter. When spring finally arrives, it’s a season of beautiful blooms and blue skies. Nowhere is spring captured more perfectly than in art.
The History of Landscape Art
Landscape art has a far-reaching history, dating back to the days of the wall paintings of the Ancient Greeks and Romans. The rise of the classic landscape painting as we know it began in the 17th century. French Artists such as Nicolas Poussin and Claude Lorrain became known for their paintings of sweeping landscapes, often depicting the Italian countryside where they both spent large parts of their art careers. The 19th century was a turning point for landscape paintings as landscapes became widely-acclaimed pieces in their own right. Artists such as Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet created iconic landscape pieces that are still treasured to this day.
Inspired by Spring
Spring is a particularly inspiring season, with abundant blooms and the slow awakening of the world after winter. It’s inspiring to see how artists can interpret a season in so many different ways. Different art styles bring out the best of spring’s virtues and the diversity of our planet means that spring looks different on each artist’s canvas. As the famous Claude Monet once said: “I must have flowers, always, and always.”

Au-dessus d’un champ fleuri by Diana Malivani
Artist Diana Malivani was born on the Black Sea in Cyprus and has always been drawn to the beauty of nature. “Diana’s paintings reflect her soul, her love for music and nature, for an infinite variety of melodies and sounds, for shades and colors, for all that nature creates: the rustling of wet leaves and the first rays of dawn, the roar of the sea surf and the scent of a flowering meadow, the flight of screeching gulls and dewdrops on a blossoming rose.”
Beskids by Attila Vencel
Artist Attila Vencel’s work features beautiful landscapes and natural elements. He shares how a family figure in his life inspired his art journey. “My passion for the countryside and nature was greatly shaped by my close relationship with my grandfather. He was a passionate fisherman, who often took me with him to wander through nature, and passed on a love of forests, meadows, hillsides, rivers, and everything alive.”
Blowing in the Wind by Linda Yurgensen
Canadian artist Linda Yurgensen lives on beautiful Vancouver Island, known for its scenic landscapes. “Painting makes me happy. When I paint all my focus is on creating a piece that will make others happy as well. I see a beautiful piece of art waiting to be created every time I look out my window and I am striving to capture just a bit of this beauty on canvas when I paint. Every day that I can paint is a happy day for me!”
Deadman Canyon by Crystal Dipietro
American artist Crystal Dipietro loves to spend time outdoors. She enjoys exploring and hiking, which ultimately influence her art. “For most of my life, I have been creating art inspired by the beautiful places I visit. It is with art that I am best able to express my great joy in exploring and connecting with the natural world.”
Divine by Katrina Avotina
Artist Katrina Avotina is known for her use of vibrant colors in her work. She draws inspiration from her various travels. “The paintings were created mainly during my travels. I try to perceive the world not only in my native Latvia, but also in other countries. Each painting has its own story. Some tell about the scenic mountains of Tuscany, the magic cathedrals of Italy.”
Incandescence by Kenneth Halvorsen
Artist Kenneth Halvorsen describes his art style as Clear Impressionism. “I paint because I must. When I see how the light strikes a particular scene for a brief moment in time, I know, I simply need to paint it. My plein air paintings of landscapes are known for their brilliant colors, extensive texture and fluid motion. I truly enjoy and get inspired by the real beauty of the great outdoors.”
Spring Gold by Maryann Cleary
American artist Maryann Cleary turns to art to express herself. She finds fulfilment in artistic expression: “Art is a way of expressing my inner feelings and spirit. I look for subjects that move and connect with me both visually and emotionally with the hope of translating the ordinary into a moving experience for the viewer. By using a pastel stick or a brush loaded with oil paint, I design and create two-dimensional paintings that are intimate and emotional.”
The positive Power wins by Marko Fenske
German Artist Marko Fenske has always been inspired by nature. “I work geomantically in the landscape and take nature as a whole being. No postcards of the landscape, but the landscape behind the landscape. The landscape, the plants and the trees are living beings with their very own tasks in this world.”
